Amanda Hislop's talk on June 11th 2013 was fascinating, inspiring both Jenny & Jacqui to sign up for her week-long class at the Oxford Summer School.
Having trained as a weaver at Farnham she taught at a girls' school for some years before becoming a full time artist and tutor.
She is mainly influenced by the natural world and the watercolours of her grandfather, who left her a small but exquisite sketchbook.
She has published a small book containing images of her work in asociation with Art Van Go entitled: ‘Land Lines, Drawn Lines, Stitch Lines’ which shows the way she is getting away from the perpendicular lines which restricted her as a weaver.
She now works with a variety of media on combinations of different fabric & paper bases, sometimes adding machine embroidery directly & sometimes making pieces on soluble fabric to be added later. She usually adds more paint & stitch to complete the work, though sometimes she adds no stitch at all to a piece. Visit her website at www.amandahisloptextileartist.com for more information about Amanda, her work and workshops & summer schools she is teaching. She is teaching a Sturday School for us in September. See the Diary for details.
Flower Festival at St. James-the-Less
This weekend, 27th 7 28th April 2013, there is a flower festival in the church in fromt of the hall where we meet to commemorate the anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the church. All the community groups who use the hall were asked to sponsor an arrangement but we went better and provided our own flower arranger too! Our own member Elainie Izod, a former Chelsea medal winner for her arrangements, has created a beautiful design for us which will be on display for the whole weekend. Try to get along to see the church if you have time up until 4pm Sunday. There is also a special Evensong at 6pm Sunday followed by refreshments in the Soltau Centre..
Annual Members' Exhibition now on.
Tuesday 14 November
Unfortunately Angie Hughes is not able to speak in May or tutor the Day School. We are currently looking for a replacement. The evening meeting will now be on Tuesday, May 9.
